PASTORAL PHILOSOPHY > THE FIVE-FOLD GOSPEL
The expression ¡°divine healing¡± signifies ¡°the healing of diseases by God¡¯s supernatural power.¡± It is Biblical to interpret this definition of divine healing as ¡°ordinary healing¡± and ¡°special healing.¡± Among those who deem divine healing as the gospel and believe it as such, some prefer to stress only the ¡°special healing¡± and overlook ¡°ordinary¡± healing. The significance of ¡°ordinary healing,¡± however, must be emphasized.
¡°Ordinary healing¡± refers to one¡¯s living a healthy life, under God¡¯s supervision and protection, without suffering from any diseases despite having a weak body. A person¡¯s health without becoming ill can be deemed a work of healing accompanied by signs of God¡¯s power.
¡°Special healing¡± refers to one¡¯s receiving healing of his disease through prayer according to his faith in God¡¯s power. It is the complete restoration of the body and the mind by God¡¯s supernatural power and the work of the Holy Spirit of people who were born with various deformities.
¡°Jehovah¡± is the name of God, signifies ¡°I AM WHO I AM¡± (Exodus 3:14), and shows that all other beings are under the control of the only true God the Almighty. From a verse in which God refers to Himself as ¡°your healer¡± (Exodus 15:26), we must fathom God¡¯s love by which He sets us free from the suffering of diseases and realize His power by which He heals us of diseases.
God tells us in Exodus 15:26, ¡°If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer.¡± If a person is stricken with a disease, it attests to the fact that he did not ¡°give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes.¡± For a child of God is a citizen of the heavenly kingdom, it is only natural for him to obey the law of the heavenly kingdom. Disobeying God¡¯s Word ? the law of the heavenly kingdom ? is lawlessness and sin (1 John 3:4). Therefore, God cannot protect those who do not obey His law and the forces of disease will take advantage of the situation and inflict them with suffering.
God tells us in Deuteronomy 7:12-15 that when we ¡°keep the commandment and the statues and the judgments¡± He commands us, He ¡°will remove from you all sickness¡± and ¡°lay them on all who hate you.¡± Here, ¡°all who hate¡± refer to those who are evil and sinful, and such people will be stricken with disease.
Some people claim they are stricken with disease even though they have not committed any sins. God¡¯s Word is clear, however: ¡°If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you.¡± Therefore, if a person is stricken with disease, he must acknowledge that he failed to ¡°give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes.¡±
If one is patient and forgives, loves, and understands others according to the truth, he can be set free from this kinds of diseases. However, for there is evil in his heart and thus he is unable to live by the truth, neurological disabilities develop, deteriorating or paralyzing functions of bodily organs and parts. Such developments weaken the overall bodily functions, cause diseases to settle within the body, and bring about mental suffering.
Some people are possessed by Satan and tormented because of demon-possession. There are people who suffer from diseases brought on by the enemy devil, and this is because they have drifted away from God¡¯s Word the truth.
When a believer accepts Jesus Christ as his Savoir and receives the Holy Spirit as a gift, as the Holy Spirit ¡°convict[s] the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment¡± (John 16:8-11), he will realize he is a sinner and repent. However, because there are times when believers fail to throw out their sins and evil and receive God¡¯s answers to their prayers because they are not aware of their sins in detail, they must examine what constitute ¡°sin¡± in God¡¯s sight. For all diseases stem from sins, people can experience a swift work of God¡¯s healing when they look back at themselves and destroy the wall of sin.
Anyone who professes his faith in God must learn and understand ¡°The Ten Commandments¡± ? a digest of the sixty-six books of the Bible ? and examine himself to see which of the commandments he is/has been violating
In addition, every believer must look back to see whether or not he has kept God¡¯s commandment by loving his neighbor as himself and if he finds that he has not, he must repent.
If an individual had not believed in God and is suffering from a disease, all he needs to do is accept Jesus as his Savior and begin a life in Christ. He must not fear those who can kill the flesh but never the spirit. He must fear, however, only the One who punishes both the flesh and the spirit in hell and hold fast to his faith and fix his eyes on the God of salvation even in the face of persecution from his parents, siblings, spouse, or parents-in-law. Once God has recognized his faith, He will do His work and the person will receive the grace of His healing.
If an individual is suffering from a disease even though he is a believer, he must examine to see whether or not hate, envy, jealousy, unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil, murder, strife, deceit, malice, gossiping, slander, arrogance, and the like, exist in his heart and must be able to receive the answer to the problem of disease in prayer, asking for God¡¯s forgiveness in His mercy and grace.
An ¡°infirmity¡± is not a light ailment such as a cold or fatigue; it is and abnormal physical condition in which the function of a bodily organ or part has failed ? from an accident or a mistake on the part of the person or his parents ? and since become paralyzed or deteriorated, thus making normal activities impossible.
For instance, ¡°infirmities¡± include muteness, deafness, blindness, lameness, infantile paralysis, and the like ? all against which the might of man is futile. All infirmities can only be healed by the God-given power. Anyone who wishes to be healed of infirmities must first posses the faith in Jesus Christ.
